Can you lose weight if you eat quickly and eat until you are full? It would appear that even if you eat foods from your dietary menu plan, eating until you are full isn't a good idea if you want to lose weight.

A recent study has discovered that people who eat quickly and eat until full are three times as likely to be overweight than people who do not share those same eating habits. This can also be true of those people who want to lose weight. Eating quickly and eating until you are full will not help you to lose weight.

Apparently the aim of the study was to see if there was a correlation between eating behaviours and obesity. The study which was published in Octobers BMJ looked at 1,122 Japanese men and 2,165 Japanese women between the ages of 30 and 69 in 2003 and 2006. The researchers from Osaka University studied the relationship between the pace of eating until full and being overweight by analysing data collected from diet questionnaires filled in by participants. The results showed that 50.9% of men and 58.4% of women ate until full. 45.6% of men and 35% of women respectively indicated that they ate quickly. Participants who said they ate until both full and quickly had a higher total energy intake and higher body mass index (BMI) than those who did not share those same behaviours. The study showed that those men and women who were in the “eat until full and quickly group” were three times as likely to be overweight than the comparison group. So if you want to lose weight it would be advisable to ensure that you eat slowly and don't eat until you are full

It is reported that Professor Ian McDonald from the University of Nottingham told the BBC that there were a number of reasons why eating fast could prevent you from being able to lose weight.

“If you eat quickly you basically fill your stomach before your gastric feedback has had a chance to start developing-you can overfill the thing. The old wives tale about chewing 20 times might be true-if you take a bit more time eating, it could have an impact.”

The possibilities to walk are endless. Instead of a coffee break take a walk break around the office or walk to the next floor or office. You can walk virtually anywhere and lose weight. Of course it is important to remember that it is necessary to eat a well balanced nutritious diet and to avoid the food that we know will cause us to gain weight.

I have a sweet tooth. Ok, I admit it and it has been one of the greatest obstacles to overcome when it comes to my battle to lose weight. I truly think it is an addiction to sugar, especially refined sugar. Over the years of fighting the battle to lose weight, I have found it is just better to never put a refined sugar in your mouth. It's just like the alcoholic who can never take another drink if they want to maintain control.

Saying that, I have found that there are some sweet snacks out there that will help curb the sugar giant when he rears his ugly head. It is possible to lose weight and still have a treat ever so often. I used the treats to reward myself every time I met a goal. Once I passed a few goals, I would use these as a twice a week snack. These are snacks for 100 calories or less, so adjust in other areas if necessary. You can still continue to lose weight, but have a sweet treat occasionally.

1/2 c. sugar-free Jello and two Tbsp. reduced-fat whipped topping
two handfuls of chocolate raisins
1/2 an apple spread with 2 tsp. peanut butter
1/2 c. orange juice (Try it frozen!)

whole wheat toast with 1 tsp. sugar-free spread

Having run a slimming club in the past I have seen many hundreds of people who are desperate to lose weight. So many of them have been trying to lose weight for years and have tried every fad diet they could lay their hands on

Often one of the problems is that people simply see themselves as fat and unattractive and so consequently if they see themselves as fat they will eat as if they are fat, reducing their chances of losing weight considerably. One of the first things to conquer is this negative view of themselves. It maybe impossible for an overweight person to see themselves as slim but if they can start to behave as if they are slim they will start to eat like a slim person and slowly the weight will start to disappear.

Nothing is quite a simplistic as that but all these aspects need to be taken into consideration if the ability to lose weight successfully is to be optimized. It is a form of mind over matter and also fits in with the ideas put forward by the law of attraction - you are what you think you are. If you think you are slim then you will attract slimness. If you want to lose weight it is no use eating all the right foods and doing all the exercises if deep down you see yourself as fat and unattractive as you will soon give up, your ability to lose weight will be diminished and you will become once again the fat person you think you are.

I was often shocked by the dietary habits of many of my customers. Never having experienced real food cravings myself I found it hard to believe that anyone could eat a 2 liter tub of ice cream in one sitting, or a whole cake or even a whole packet of biscuits. But these cravings where very real to some people and were the main reason why they put weight on in the first place and then found it so difficult to lose weight.

Unfortunately this soon creates a yoyo effect and hypoglycemia is the result - constant low blood sugar - resulting in the regular need for sugar intake. This can be remedied by ensuring that your diet is high in complex carbohydrates as the more complex they are the longer it takes to break them down and the longer the body has to use the energy they are producing. In really bad cases supplementing with chromium can help to stabilize the blood sugar levels as long as this is done in conjunction with a diet high in complex carbohydrates. I have tried many diets and I find I will lose weight the easiest and fastest with a high protein diet. It works, but there may be some unhealthy side effects from this type of diet. Not only unhealthy side effects, but unpleasant ones also, like massive constipation and really bad breath as your body goes into acidosis.

Don't be deceived by the name 'high protein'—which is another way of saying low or no-carb diet. All the fad diets that were no or low carb were condemned for their unhealthiness. Low or no carb diet also suggests high protein or fat diet; it's just altering the name and wishing everyone will swallow it! Believe me, if you are not eating carbs, you are eating probably a high fat, high protein diet.

What is a high protein diet? A high protein diet is precisely what it claims it is; except the difference is that to be high protein, you also have to control the carbs that you consume. If you stay with the amount of carbs that you normally consume, but up the amount of protein, you'll not lose any weight; yet, if you drop the carb calories and swap them for protein calories, you're likely to lose weight. First of all, the body, indeed, needs protein for building and maintaining muscles. Some sources of protein in standard diet comprise all dairy products, some types of beans, and all kinds of nuts. Diabetics Must Lose Weight ASAP To Control Diabetes Symptoms

Researchers have found that newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients can significantly improve disease symptoms if they lose weight.

Researchers from Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland analysed electronic medical records of 2574 patients aged from 21 to 75 during the period between 1997 and 2002. All participants were type 2 diabetes diagnosed recently.

Study participants, who were diabetes patients, were divided into 3 groups according to body weight. The first group was named 'weight loss' group and involved 12% of study participants who lost about 25 pounds, but almost all of them regained the lost pounds in a 36 month period. The other two groups were named 'higher stable weight' and 'lower stable weight'.

Researchers found that those who managed to significantly lose weight within the first 18 months after being diagnosed with diabetes were twice as likely to control blood cholesterol and sugar levels and blood pressure, than those who maintained stable weight. The surprise in the study was that these people managed to be healthier even when they gained weight four years later.

When patients manage early metabolic control, the effect can last long enough to keep the patients healthier even after gaining the lost weight back, suggests the research. Probably, if scientists looked at weight gainers 15 years after the study, they would find that early weight losers do not benefit anymore.

There are about 20 million Americans suffering from type 2 diabetes. Most of them are overweight and obese. Diabetes is a very complicated disease leading to numerous health conditions especially in elderly, such as heart disease, blindness, kidney damage. There have been lots of studies educating about weight loss importance for diabetes patients. This is just one more study saying, that it is never too late to lose weight to improve quality of life.

One of the problems seems to be that parents don't recognise that their children are overweight and they underestimate the amount of unhealthy and fast food consumed. Only 38% of adults know that obesity leads to heart disease and only 6% were aware that it contributes to cancer. It would appear that these reasons alone should be enough to encourage people to make an effort to lose weight today.

Parent need to take fuller responsibility for the health and well being of their children. Too many parents today do not know how to make a meal from scratch, and many will use unhealthy snacks as rewards and boredom fillers. Not only this but the ingredients which are more prominent should be listed at the top, for example if the product contains 95% meat then this will be listed first, the rest of the ingredients go in descending order.

Serving sizes or portions – serving sizes can be very misleading, how do you determine what a portion is? Well now this is made a little easier because on the packaging it should state how many people the product will serve. Check the label to see for the number of servings and the serving size.

Nutritional facts – this is some of the most important information, the advice on the product had to give the nutritional information per serving. When considering the nutritional facts you should take into account that 1 gr. of fat is equal to calories, 1 gr. of protein is equal to 4 calories, 1 gr. of carb`s is equal to 4 calories and 1 gr. of alcohol is equal to 7 calories. This is very important if you want to be able to choose the right foods to lose weight effectively.

Claims on food labels Sometimes terms that are used on foods can be very confusing, for example what exactly does fat free mean? What does sugar free mean? Here are those terms explained in detail.

If you are looking for a product to be fat free then it has to have less than 0.5 grams of fat in it.

Low fat is 3 grams or less per serving of the product.

Saturated free means that the product contains less than 0.5 grams of saturated fat

Cholesterol free means that the product must contain less than 2mg of cholesterol for every serving

Low cholesterol means that there should be 20mg or less of cholesterol per serving

Extra lean means that the product must contain less than 5 grams of fat per 100 gram.

Why Can't I Lose Weight?

There seems to be no end to the lengths Americans will go to, to lose weight. From fasting to gorging, everyone seems to have the latest cure and the latest fad diet. There is no wonder people are searching online, asking "Why can't I lose weight"?

How crazy can diets get? How about getting injections of a pregnant woman's urine? Or eating nothing but cabbage soup? Has the world gone mad or are they just having a laugh at our expense.

If we are to take the question "Why can't I lose weight?" seriously then we need to look at how that person has tried to lose weight in the past. If they have tried fad diet after fad diet and wanted to lose weight quickly then maybe that would be the first place to start.

I recently had someone ask me that very question. "Why can't I lose weight"? When we looked at her diet it was low in calories and low in protein. But what the person asking the question couldn't understand was, she had been eating almost half the amount of food she normally ate and she still wasn't losing weight.

There is so much misleading information around on weight loss that it is no wonder there is total confusion. The sooner people realise that they will not lose weight permanently on a fad diet that either concentrates on one food, promises amazing weight loss in 7 days or suggests that you need to cut calories to lose weight, the sooner people will stop asking "Why can't I lose weight"?

It seems to me that the majority of people who have a chronic weight problem have been doing something wrong. They have either been eating the wrong foods or simply eating too much and probably too late in the day. Anyone who thinks that they can lose weight by embarking on a fad diet that is far from being a well balanced nutritious regime is just fooling themselves.

It is vital that all the people who are saying "why can't I lose weight?" realise, first and foremost, that a healthy well balanced nutritious diet is the only way forward, not just for their immediate weight lose regime, but for life.

Rapid weight loss is detrimental to your health and is unlikely ever to be sustained. Consuming low levels of calories as suggested by some diet regimes is basically a semi starvation diet and can cause loss of muscle from our organs including our heart. This is not a sensible way forward.

Always look for the scientific evidence to back up any diet you may choose to follow. And remember it is physiologically impossible to lose more than 2lb of fat a week. Any diet promising more than that is lying. You may however lose more weight than 2lb but it won't be fat. It will either be water or muscle and most importantly your body will not be able to sustain that weight loss when you return to normal eating.

So to answer the question "why can't I lose weight?" it is likely to be because you are not eating enough of the right foods at the right time of day. It really is as simple as that.

For example, if you consume 500 extra calories per day for one week without changing your activity level, you will gain 1 pound in weight (seven days multiplied by 500 calories equals 3,500 calories, or the number of calories resulting in a 1-pound weight gain). Likewise, if you eat 500 fewer calories each day for a week or burn 500 calories per day through exercise for one week, you will lose 1 pound.

Examples of calorie content of some popular foods and beverages include:

one slice original-style crust pepperoni pizza - 230 calories

one can cola - 150 calories

Any activities you do throughout the day are added to your BMR (basal metabolic rate) to determine the total number of calories you burn each day. The same time spent on housecleaning burns about 200 calories, and mowing the lawn for 45 minutes consumes around 275 calories.

Most experts agree that a safe, healthy rate of weight loss is one to 1 ½ pounds per week. Modification of eating habits along with regular exercise is the most effective way to lose weight over the long term. It is also the ideal way to ensure that the weight stays off.
