1. Open Question: I'm looking for a home based business where I can work online, is there a good one?


2. Open Question: At what point do 'deceptive business practices' become illegal?
I now know what is meant by "deceptive business practices". We signed a 36 month contract with Quantum alarm company to monitor our home alarm. Service was bad but we didn't want to fight it, so we waited until the contract expired then signed with a different company. Now, they won't let us cancel! The contract includes a line that says, "The original term of this agreement is 3 years and will automatically continue for successive 1 year periods unless cancelled by either of us in writing at least 30 days prior to the end of the original term or any renewal term." We asked when we signed the original contract and were told that after the 36 month term, the rate would re-lock for an additional 12 month period, but we could cancel service at any time. Now they are telling us that of course we can cancel, but we have to pay out the entire year even if we cancel service immediately! Is this legal? Do we have any recourse? We asked for a Buy out Cancellation letter and it says our contract expired 3/11/2009, but we have to pay 8 additional months in full (although our first payment was in March 2006 and we have already paid for July... so that should be 7 months left at most). This letter also shows the wrong account number and contract dates different from our original contract. Any suggestions for ways to resolve this situation? They don't return my phone calls at all, and when they talk to my husband they are rude and unwilling to reach a compromise. Are there any issues we can address legally when we send the 'written notification to cancel'? We intend to file with the BBB (mostly for the failure to respond to an alarm last month, but now we can add this to the claim as well); unfortunately, their C+ rating has set our expectations fairly low. FYI, the company we signed with, their service contractor, and our home are all based in TX, if that makes a difference. The way they interpret the contract, it would renew forever without us ever authorizing an extension. We were never informed of the renewal and have yet to see anything that shows a date beyond March 2009. Obviously unethical, but is it legal? Thanks, BK

I am 17 and will be 18 soon, the age required to invest. I have £3,500 and I'm looking to start a home based business trading CFDs (Contracts for Differences). 5. Open Question: Do I need to send my Colorado State/County sales and use taxes in anymore?
I got a letter in the mail from the IRS saying that I, no longer needed to send in my State/county sales taxes. I am a small, home-based business owner and have a sales/use tax liscence. My taxes are normally due on the 20th this month, but I don't want to find out it was some sort of scam and get penalized for it. I still have to pay my city taxes. The letter said there was a new bill passed by congress saying that I would no longer have to pay the state and county.

We have a home based business and it is making good side money, but it can't grow any larger because we all have other jobs. We want to get a business loan and get a location so we can quit our jobs and do this full time BUT we are not making enough extra money to put aside 3 months wort of pay/bill money to get us bye while the business kicks off. The job sounds great and the process to get the job seems pretty legit. to me, however, I haven't had a phone or in person interview...which worries me alittle. My job is supposed to be to collect money from people to pay rent, deposit the money, and so on. They sent me an e-mail with instructions to do the follows. I was thinking I will just open a seperate bank account for this. I am a little scared this is a scam. I have been diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse & Aura migraines that disable me on a daily basis, usually in the morning. MVP is a condition where a valve in the heart pumps blood backwards triggering excessive adrenaline which causes heart palpitations, shortness of breath, shakiness, anxiety, lack of concentration and vertigo. The vertigo restricts me from walking and seeing straight and usually triggers an aura migraine, which brings on tunnel vision and the symptoms of fainting. I have been treated with medications such as Inderal, Zoloft, Depakote, Periactin that were unsuccessful. I've tirelessly pursued new work but my condition repeatedly prevents me from normalcy. I need to find a job that I can work from home. I am desperately seeking something legit. When you go searching even on craigslist its hard to determine what's a real job. I'm looking for something administrative. I'm good with computers, phones, all admin duties and have been a personal assistant for years. I cannot afford to pay for anything as I hardly can pay for food. A lot of home based businesses require a fee. 21. Voting Question: My husband just doesn't GET why I was upset with him about this situation... do you?
He's a senior manager at his company. He offices from home on Mondays, and late afternoons too. His office set-up a phone line for him in our home. He has a (single) female junior manager always calling the house, almost every single day, within two minutes after I walk out the door. The reason I know this is my 4 year old daughter would call my cell, telling me that "daddy talks to that lady every day! I want my breakfast (or a snack, after she gets out from pre-school) or, on a few occasions, I would come back to the house unexpectedly if I forgot something (papers, my purse). Then, a few months ago, I switched to 2nd shift. Now, she calls him, once again, right after I leave the house at 2:00PM. I told him I felt uncomfortable with her always seeming to call right after I walked out the door. She calls almost every single day. I pointed out the only way she could know that I was gone from the house is that he had to have told her when I'd be gone - either that, or she's extraordinarily lucky... or psychic. It's too consistent to be an accident - and the only way she would know when to call when I was gone would be if he had told her I would be gone. This girl is very flirtatious, and loves to play The Temptress at bi-annual family events where employees and their families gather. She flatters all the men endlessly, and when walking up to one will lightly place her fingers on their sleeve or arm. He insists that because she's his subordinate, that she needs a lot of reassurance and mentoring. I say, after 3 years, if she hasn't gotten her **** together by now, she never will. Oh, and he was the one who promoted her into her present position... and I thought, based on her qualifications at that time, that she wasn't ready: when he would give her corrective interviews, she would cry at the slightest mention of needing her to improve her performance. I say this is more than coincidence, that she seems to call whenever I'm not at home. She's a known flirt, and I think she's trying to work her way up the business ladder on her back. He says, it's strictly business. In group photos, she's always nearby him in the grouping. She always goes out with the group - that is, whenever HE goes out with the group - for Friday afternoon drinks. I say they are both up to no good. What do you say? FRECKLES - try actually reading what I wrote. I do hold down a full-time job outside of our home, it's HIS EMPLOYER that insists that Mondays be Official Office-at-Home Days ("Communication Days") and it's retail, so he has to be "on-call" 7 days a week, basically 24 / 7. I wouldn't wish his job on my worst enemy, but he seems to love it.

www.yahoo.com is not set up to establish a connection to port "World Wide Web service" (HTTP) with this computer. As far as I know it isnt a DNS issue. I can't access any web pages using neither IE or Firefox. When this happens, other applications like AIM, Google Chat are still online and communicating fine. From the command prompt, I can still ping websites by their name (Example: ping www.google.com ) and get 100% responses meaning that DNS is functioning. I've tried disabling the ZoneAlarm firewall, the Windows Firewall has always been dissabled. I originally had SP2 installed for Vista but removed it thinking that was the issue but the issue still remains. I did a fresh install of Vista(after a full format), the issue came back 2 days later. Someone help me. And please understand that this this isn't an IE issue. It is a Vista issue because any port 80 traffic for any application does not go through. Even if I try to bring up my router's configuration page by IP address, the page still can not be displayed. It is not my router because at home I'm on wifi while at work on the same laptop, I'm using ethernet and still face the same issue. Sorry, I know I said alot. I'm getting desperate now lol Here's a summary: - Web browsers {IE7, IE8, Firefox3} stop displaying web pages (intranet & internet) - Other internet based applications using different port numbers are fine - DNS is fine because I can ping websites by name - Laptop has the issue regardless if I'm at work or at home - I'm the only one with Vista installed and am the only one who has the issue in the house - Windows firewall completely disabled - Zone Alarm firewall temporarily disabled, same issue - Vista SP1 has the issue. Reinstalled Vista, added SP2, same issue - Vista Business 32bit had the issue, Vista Home Premium 32bit same issue - Only way to temporarily resolve the issue is to restart

An acquaintance wrote this and I thought I would put it out there to see what people's opinions are of this bill. I have been challenged with explain exactly “What is Cap and Trade” and I am amazed that very few people that I know has any idea what is in this magical black box. Since this bill has passed the House and is soon to be voted on in the Senate, I would like to make my best effort to explain what it is. Specifics and formulas have not been worked out to my knowledge so the examples below are not to be taken face value but should get you pointed in the right direction. Every individual in the United States will be given a set value of acceptable carbon footprint. Every function whether it is purifying water, keeping your house cool, driving your car uses energy. Energy usage through mathematical formulas can be converted in to carbon output. For example, water is pumped from Lake Meade, sent Through processors and filters. Chemicals are added and the water is pumped to your home or business. The pumps from the lake take energy, the processors take energy, the chemical factories use energy to produce the chemical, the water is used and has to be treated back to its original state. The byproduct of all this energy is carbon. Now we get down to how this is applied to you and your life. Every household will be monitored as to how much power, water, waste, gas, fuel…..to determine if they are over or under their allotted carbon footprint. Believe me the values are not high for example: Water usage-Showers not to exceed 3 minutes per day using a low flow shower head. Flushes using a low flow toilet to be limited to a set number per member per day. Dishwashers, baths, and normal laundry, landscaping and swimming pools will put you over your limit. Let’s just consider them luxury items and you have to pay more for using them. Electricity gets a little more complicated but follows the same principal. Every household will be allotted so much electricity per resident. The value will be set around 250 square feet of living space per person living in the residence. So a family of four will be allotted 1,000 S.F. of living space and the electricity to light it using energy efficient lighting a limited number of hours per day, air conditioning or heating to climate control the living space at 860F in the summer and 670F in the winter a limited number of hours per day. They will probably throw in 3 hours of TV and some power for small appliances. Your car, you will be allotted a certain number of miles to drive per week and they will be based on average commute to and from work along with a few errands and necessary trips. If you go over your miles, then you will have to buy carbon credits. Now, who is going to determine your allotted carbon footprint? The government will and they will also monitor it. So you can save some carbon credits here and spend some there but at the end of the year, you will have to square the account to zero. Where will you buy carbon credits? Not everybody has a car, air conditioning, 250s.f. per resident and they will have carbon credits left over. Now you just have to buy them. Another example: An inter-city mother of 4 children living in a 550s.f. apartment with no electricity and no daily commute will have ample carbon credits left over and she can sell them to an exchange. We will purchase them from an exchange along with a processing or administrative fee to the exchange. The intent of the Cap and Trade Bill is the following: People and individuals who have excessive carbon footprints as determined by the Federal Government will have to make every effort to reduce their standards of living or pay a yearly fee (tax) to keep it. Public transportation is one way to conserve, using public restrooms, laundry facilities, city pools.... The second is that less fortunate households, with many members living under one roof, will have a commodity that they can sell to the more fortunate citizens….otherwise known as “Trickle-Up Economics” or “Redistribution of Wealth.” If this is so, what do you think is right or wrong? Here’s the thing: I run an online comic book store. Right now I only sell comic books. I’m fed up with trying to get table rates to work the way I want & failing to grasp it so decided to go with 25% handling fee (so, say, s&h;on a first class package will be $0.80 instead of $0.64). In my shipping & returns policy I was thinking of adding a little disclaimer explaining that in the future, as the store begins to sell other types of merchandise (clothes, toys, dvds) that the costs will change to accommodate the costs of these items. What might the risk be to my customer base by doing this? I don’t really have the budget right now to hire someone to design a table rate the way I want, and I work from home so I don’t have the extra overhead that would require me to charge higher shipping costs (a local competitor charges $7.99 s&h;on priority mail shipments under $10!) I see so many other similar businesses that use table rates I’m still a little torn as to if I should try and get it done at the start as opposed to later and risk driving long-time customers away. Hello everyone. I need your advice. This is going to be long. Before my wife and I got married and had a kid I for one was not ready but I loved her so I did what she wanted married her and gave her a child. I had a business I had invested all my life savings for. I told her that I wanted the business to succeed given that I invested my life savings so that when she got out of the military I had money and she could go to school and get her degree. Keep in mind that my business was not doing good because of the economy I was in the red but everyone keep telling me it will get better and I will be like it was before the economy sucked. So she was very fine with it and what not. Things started to change within 30 days of being married she at this time was Prego and she wanted me to go to California with her. I was shocked because not 30 days before she was all supportive of my business and what not. So I told her I could not just get up and leave I had a lot of bills to pay and what not. She threw the line that if I love her and my child that I would move in with her. At this point she has changed a lot she has done nothing we talked about and even worse she won’t do anything I ask her to it has to be what she wants no room for my wants. I'm not sure I even really have a question. I'd like to just throw this out there and see what comments come of it. I have a co-worker, of which I am personally fond of, and who is in a lower position than I, which is how I know the information I'm about to share. We work for a mental health agency, that caters to foster children of all ages up to 18. About 15 of our 50 children are bussed into our office from their homes and/or school to attend a therapy-based day program. The co-worker I mentioned above, was one of the counselors for the day program, also responsible for the transport of the clients to and from the program. This co-worker (call him Al), had not always been a model employee but has been one of the strongest forces in the day program. He was tenured and has a very intimate connection with our clients and their families, as well as with the majority of the entire staff (25 people). His downfalls were that he did not always complete his paperwork in a timely manner, which can be detramental to billing, his driver's license was once suspended (he made no mention of this until it was required of all driving staff to submit their driving records), but informed his direct supervisor about it, who informed the program manager, who overreacted and damn near had a heart attack and pulled Al from his route. The issue was then ressolved two days later. Al is an older man with some pretty serious health issues. He was involved in a collision once in a company vehicle, but managed to stay out of the line of fire and just recently, about two months ago, accidentially put his vehicle in reverse instead of park as he assumed he had, and with the vehicle door ajar and him completely outside of the vehicle, the vehicle rolled backwards, destroying the door as it hit the other company vehicle parked next to it, causing damage to that vehicle as well, about $4500 worth of damages to both vehicles. He is a well respected employee, despite these things, because you can never ask him for his help and not get it, he takes money from his own pocket for the clients and he doesn't even get paid much. He will work 16 hour days if requested, and has been denied overtime in the past for doing what he'd been asked to do by other staff. The ckients adore him as he is somewhat considered the father figure in the program. The kids not only relate to him, they respect him, which is quite hard to earn in this business. Today, Al was fired. Al got fored because he was on a run (bussing clients) and pulled over by the police and taken away, in front of the clients. The program manager was notified and immediately fired Al. Al didn't kbow because he was at the police station. Before the end of the day, Al called to explain that the officer took him in for a warrent that they later determined was not for Al. The program manager wanted to know why Al was pulled over and Al said he didn't know. He was not issued a ticket, warning or anything. Later in the evening, Al's direct supervisor went to Al's home to pick up his office keys and cell phone. I was instructed to delete his email and login. His termination has been requested and will be completed tomorrow morning. The clients, their parents and the staff alike will all be devastated when they find out. Does this sound fair to you? The clients are going to have a fit when they find out. Is this normal procedure?
